What we stand for
A plain statement of the values behind everything Arctos Media operates.
Fair treatment of all people
We believe every person is entitled to dignity and fair treatment. Journalism that serves some people at the expense of others is not journalism; it is advocacy for a hierarchy. We do not practice it, publish it, or platform it.
Against hate and supremacy, without qualification
We publicly denounce hate, supremacy, and dehumanization in any and all forms: racial, religious, ethnic, national, gendered, or otherwise. This is not a controversial position, and we decline to treat it as one. There is no both-sides framing of human worth.
Countering lies with method
Groups that preach hatred share one dependency: an audience misinformed enough to believe them. That is the dependency our work attacks. Everything we publish is built on citations, archived sources, and public corrections, so any reader can check us. We consider honest information a public good, and the working answer to propaganda.
On our name
Arctos is the shared name across our family of ventures; it is Greek for bear. After Arctos Media LLC was formed, we learned that a similarly named European publisher, Arktos Media, is widely described as a leading publisher of far-right ideology. We have no affiliation with it, no connection to it, and no tolerance for what it promotes.
That left us a choice: retreat from our name, or give it a better meaning. We chose the second. We intend Arctos to stand for work that counters exactly what that catalogue preaches: reporting grounded in evidence, corrections made in public, and a newsroom that treats every person's dignity as non-negotiable.
That is the standard we ask readers to hold us to. The short version is three words: love all people.
